Havaianas Australia Day Thong Challenge

Note to Americans: These are not the thongs YOU are thinking of.

"Our home is girt by sea"
It says so in our National Anthem. And while many Aussies grew up singing it, but not understanding it (I knew what it meant), we have certainly come to understand that it means our Surf Lifesavers who patrol our beaches every Summer are an essential part of our community. You only have to watch one episode of Bondi Rescue and watch a hapless tourist being rescued from a dangerous rip to know this.

The Nippers are our lifesavers of the future, and as such, need our help. And what better way to have a fundraising effort for the true blue Aussie Nippers, than to combine it with Australia Day?

The Best Way To Celebrate Our Nation’s Birthday
Get involved in the Havaianas Australia Day world record attempt at Glenelg Beach!

January 2013: Australia’s favourite summer event will be back at Glenelg Beach next Australia Day, where participants will once again band together in an attempt to set a new world record for the longest line of giant inflatable Havaianas joined in the water. Now in it’s eighth year the Havaianas Australia Day Thong Challenge continues to raise funds for the Nippers, with a total of $52,260 raised in 2012.

The popular event is synonymous with Australia Day, and creates a unique sight across each state’s most prominent beaches simultaneously. The friendly but feisty spirit of Australia is present across the entire country, as family members from every generation join together to be a part of Australia’s number one summer event.

South Australians are encouraged to get competitive and join in the fun on January 26th, and take part in a world record attempt. What better way is there to spend a fun fuelled family Australia Day than together on Glenelg Beach!

WA took out the challenge in 2012 and beat neighbouring states, setting a new world record of 2,088 people. Will 2013 be SA’s year?   Keeping spirits high and motivating the SA contingent, will be SA FM’s Simon Mitchell, who will act as event MC on the day.

Registration costs just $25.00 and participants receive a giant inflatable Havaianas (valued @ $49.95). There will be a limited number of registrations available on the day for $30.00.

  2. Thong challenge. That sounds like the title of a xxx movie. I am sad I live in a state that is ungirt by sea.
